History Behind The 'Levitt Mobile'
Our region celebrates the founders of this unique community called Levittown. It is important to remember that Abraham, William and Alfred Levitt were the trio that embodied their own unique talents into the creation of Levittown. Their canvas of colors, textures and rhythm encompass our Bucks County Landscape. We will continue to harvest and preserve all available data, historical accounts, biographical and corporate materials related to the conceptualization, planning, development and construction of all Levittowns past and present. |
The Levitt's Landia
We have proven that the Levitts wanted to build "Landia" and that it originally was to be built in New York. But with family concerns about total completion in New York, they decided to build "Landia" in historic Bucks County. The community of Levittown, Pennsylvania was to be their signature community. Once noted as America's largest pre-planned community built between 1952-1958, Levitt and Sons Incorporated fostered and had one idea in mind. What can this home building company contribute to the American cause? Ten years after our involvement because of the invasion of Pearl Harbor, the Levitt Family opened the exhibit center on route 13 and the Levittown Parkway December 8th 1951.

The Levittown American Eagle
The Eagle on the Levitt mobile symbolizes the American Dream, but more importantly Alfred Levitt's contemplation of his homes and how to make them pleasing from the ground level as well as from the heavens. His accomplishments were completed when he created his Levittown in six different styles, each having four to five versions. Alfred also created the outline of Levittown as an Eagle. Abraham Levitt dedicated to the premise of the "Garden Community" would be the Johnny Appleseed of the 20th century. William was the chief. His talents and genius allowed for his families dream, a dream for all America to live in a "True Garden Community", the Levitt signature community.
